Back in 2013, we were still working out of a borrowed trailer in San Antonio when a call came in from a homeowner in Schertz. The house was on the newer side, built after the 2010 boom near the Cibolo Creek corridor, and the owner had already paid another company to clean the ducts. They’d run a brush through the main trunk and left a receipt for $89. But the family was still waking up congested, still dusting every surface twice a week, still smelling something musty when the AC kicked on.
We brought a Rotobrush system and a camera. What we found was textbook: the main trunk looked passable, but every lateral run, especially the ones feeding the back bedrooms toward Selma, was packed with construction debris the original crew never touched. No access panels had been cut. No before photos existed. The homeowner had paid for a performance, not a cleaning.
That night, driving back toward I-35, we made a decision. Schertz was growing fast, full of new construction and young families who deserved to know what they were actually paying for. There was a moment, maybe his third summer, when Tomas was crawling through an attic in Universal City. The temperature was pushing 115 degrees. Fiberglass was itching through his shirt. He had his face pressed to a main trunk, feeding a cable with a camera head, and the monitor showed a clump of drywall mud and insect casings that had been there since the house was built.
